How to Make a Laser Cut Dollhouse with Houscaper

Houscaper connects playful voxel building in the browser to real laser-cut wood (or similar sheet stock) miniatures. This walkthrough covers the full path from first block to assembled dollhouse.

  1. 1Open Houscaper and pick a style

    Go to the workshop and choose one of twelve presets—Garden cottage, Harbour house, Canopy lodge, Hanok house, Canal houses, Stone castle, Timber-frame town, Persian courtyard, Modern villa, Japanese castle, Mexican village, Viking village. Each style sets roof shapes, facades, and decoration rules for your voxel house.

  2. 2Design your house in 3D

    Use the voxel tools to add and remove blocks, adjust height, place props, and refine the silhouette. Undo and view controls help you iterate until the miniature reads clearly at dollhouse scale.

  3. 3Open Export and set fabrication options

    In the export drawer, enter your measured material thickness in millimeters and a kerf reference for your laser. Choose model scale (1:50 and 1:60 are common choices), sheet size, and window frame mode.

  4. 4Download the laser-cut file package

    Download the ZIP containing SVG cut sheets (red CUT and blue ENGRAVE layers), a fit coupon SVG, parts inventory, placement manifest, and an illustrated assembly guide.

  5. 5Cut a fit coupon first

    Laser the fit coupon on a scrap of your actual stock. Confirm slot width and kerf compensation in your CAM software before cutting the full kit.

  6. 6Laser the SVG sheets

    Import the SVG files into software for your laser cutter—Glowforge, xTool, or similar. Engrave first, then interior cuts, then outer contours. Apply kerf offset using the value you tested on the coupon.

  7. 7Assemble the physical model

    Follow the assembly guide in the ZIP: foundation and floors, unified wall panels, stairs and landings if present, then roof pieces. Glue joints and add landscape details after the structure cures.

  8. 8Iterate

    Save your project, try another style, or adjust voxels and re-export at a different scale or sheet layout for your next laser-cut dollhouse.
