Houscaper

Answers

What board thickness should I use for a laser-cut dollhouse?

Houscaper defaults to 2 mm and also offers 1 mm and 3.2 mm (1/8") presets; 3.2 mm is the common US MDF thickness. You can type your own measured thickness between 0.5 and 5 mm.

Why thin stock

Houscaper targets miniature laser cutting on thin 1 mm, 2 mm and 3.2 mm sheet stock. At the default 1:30 scale, one 900 mm house module becomes a 30 mm tile, which keeps 1 to 2 mm tabs in proportion to the walls.

Enter the thickness you measured

The thickness field is the real thickness of your sheet in millimeters, not the label on the package. Measure the board with calipers and enter that value, because slot widths follow it.

Test before you cut the kit

Cut paths use nominal dimensions, and each SVG sheet notes that you should apply your calibrated kerf in your laser software. The default kerf reference is 0.12 mm. Cut the fit coupon on an offcut of the same board and check the slots before you commit the full kit.
